Your Car Key as Your Guardian – Idea 54/365

A small but interesting idea for today. And as I write this, I just can’t help thinking that someone just must have created this before. Oh, and of course as my idea couple of days ago (idea 52) this will be irrelevant if we have self driving cars.

What if you could not open/start your car unless you were legally under the drinking limit? When you go out for a drink you might not be sure you are under the limit and honestly feel that you don’t want to break any laws or take any risks. Of course you could have bought a breathalyzer, but who keeps that around? It would be a better idea if your key ring would insist that you breath on it each time you open your car. It would detect if you are over the limit and not start the car if that is the case.

I can hear you say: “Well they would just get their mates to breath into it”. And yes, maybe they would, but at that point you would have to have two things occurring. a) you would be breaking the law on purpose, b) you would have an accomplish.

This could even become a status symbol, something you can install in your own car. “I have the RED SQUARE key ring” – > which everyone would know was no drink/drive key ring.
