Phone Charger for Hiking – Idea 78/365

On purpose I have not searched for this online, as it just has to be already invented. It came to me as I was thinking about what I needed if I wanted to start hiking again. Quickly the mind went to how I would like to take photos on my iPhone during any hike. I would also like to sometimes listen to audiobooks, or note down some ideas or thoughts into my phone. However, my iPhone more or less needs charging twice a day.

What if you had solar panels on your backpack that would enable you to charge your phone? Now this should be either something just on the fabric, or even like a sun umbrella that you can spread when the sun is shining brightly. If not too heavy, the backpack could even hold its own battery and even storage device (both waterproof of course).

If the electricity collected would be enough, you could also use it for electric cooker, or night light?

I am 90% confident that I will find something like this if I Google it, but I am surprised that I have never seen it or heard about it if that is the case. Additionally, why hasn’t this been invented for us in our daily lives? Why can’t you just spread your power gathering umbrella as you walk around town? And of course, there is the thought that if you are going on long hikes, leaving technology behind might be best. But that is another discussion all together.
